Studies on g-jitter effects indicate that convection in microgravity is related to the magnitude and frequency of g-jitter and to the alignment of the gravity field with respect to the growth. This article describes a numerical study of g-jitter driven double-diffusive convective flows and thermal and concentration distributions in binary alloy melt systems subject to an external.
During directional solidification of a binary alloy at constant velocity, thermosolutal convection may occur due to the temperature and solute gradients associated with the solidification process.
For vertical growth in an ideal furnace (lacking horizontal gradients) a quiescent state is by: Benjapiyaporn C; Timchenko V; De Vahl Davis G; Leonardi E; De Groh HC,'Effects of G-jitter on directional solidification of a binary alloy', in NASA (ed.), 49th international astronautical congress, 49th international astronautical congress, Melbourne, pp.
1 - 10, presented at 49th international astronautical congress, Melbourne, The application of a low-gravity environment is generally accepted for investigations of convection affected processes. A variety of existing and planned means of access to low gravity is offered to investigators.

They found that the presence of g-jitter causes mixing and overcomes the Soret effect in a cavity, therefore making it difficult to measure the Soret coefficient accurately in space.

Such a directional solidification process is present in many industrial processes such as directional freezing of cast turbine blades, welding of alloys and Bridgman growth of electronic materials.
By changing growth conditions, it is possible to solidify a given alloy with a planar, cellular or dendritic interface of a single phase, or a.
